Throughout April and May, The Schoolwear Association conducted two detailed surveys to understand the role school uniform continues to play in creating a secure and inclusive educational environment for children and young people across the country – and the impact of recent Government guidance in reducing costs for families.

Following a survey of school uniform suppliers and retailers*,The Schoolwear Association has found the average cost ofcompulsory secondary school uniform and sportswear items for achild starting secondary school in England in 2023 is £96.24 per pupil.

School uniform prevents bullying and reduces the cost of kitting kids out, say teachers 

New research from The Schoolwear Association, in partnership with Teacher Tapp, reveals that without school uniform, over half (59%) of all secondary school teachers believe bullying would increase and 66% believe children would demand designer clothing from parents.
